Free Tax Preparation/Filing Assistance for families making $54,000/year or less will be offered again this year at the Blake Memorial Library on Thursdays from 4:00 – 7:00 pm starting February 7 (through April 11). Appointments can be drop-in or scheduled ahead.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. VITA is sponsored by and all volunteer preparers receive training from the IRS and the Vermont Department of Taxes. In addition to preparing state and federal tax returns, our volunteers will help file Vermont’s renter’s rebate, homestead declaration and property tax adjustment forms.
1. your social security card or a government issued document that contains your full social security number
2. A valid photo ID
3. Your tax documents including property tax bills

***Common income tax forms and instruction booklets will be available at the library during tax season for those who are doing their own taxes. You can also print tax forms from the library’s public access computers.
