Middle Schoolers, we invite you to join us for a week outdoors: hiking, nature journaling, gardening, exploring, making crafts, and storytelling around a campfire in community and friendship.
Over the course of our week together we will read selections of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Braiding Sweetgrass; sit in Council Circles; forage wild edibles; explore local woods, meadow, rivers and streams; carve walking sticks and totems; weave baskets; and learn about the Abenaki who once occupied our local area. On the final day of camp we will share what we’ve learned and created with friends, relatives, and community members in a ceremonious circle.
The Blake Memorial Library Middle Grades Humanities Camp is sponsored by the VT Humanities Council and is FREE and open to all middle school students (going into 5th -exiting 8th). Snacks and lunch will be provided daily. Campers will receive their own copy of the book, Braiding Sweetgrass, as well as a waterproof journal and pen set, and an official VT Humanities Camp T-shirt.
Camp will run July 19 – July 23 from 9-3, with a final, culminating event on the evening of July 23rd.
